Introduction

Shotgun primers are an essential component of shotgun ammunition. They ignite the gunpowder and propel the shot, resulting in a successful shot. In this article, we will discuss the different types of shotgun primers, their benefits and drawbacks, and why the Winchester 209  primers is a reliable choice.

Types of Shotgun Primers

There are two main types of shotgun primers – Boxer and Berdan. Boxer primers are the most commonly used type of primer in the United States, while Berdan primers are commonly used in Europe and other parts of the world. Boxer primers are easier to find and reload, and they offer consistent ignition. Berdan primers, on the other hand, are cheaper to produce, but they are harder to find and reload.

Benefits of Winchester W209 Primers

Winchester W209 shotgun primers are highly recommended due to their high-quality materials and consistent ignition. These primers are designed for shotguns that use 209 primers and are perfect for reloading. The W209 primers are non-corrosive, non-mercuric, and non-toxic. The primer’s brass cups are made of high-quality materials that provide a reliable ignition and consistency with every shot.

How to Reload Winchester W209 Primers

Reloading shotgun primers can be a challenging task, but with the right tools and knowledge, it can be done with ease. First, you will need to remove the spent primer from the shotgun shell using a depriming tool. Next, you will need to resize the case using a resizing die to ensure that it fits perfectly into the shotgun chamber. After resizing, you can then insert the new primer into the resized shell using a primer seating tool.

Tips for Using Winchester 209 Primers

To ensure the best results when using Winchester W209 primers, you should follow these tips:

  • Use the proper reloading equipment
  • Store primers in a cool, dry place
  • Use the recommended amount of gunpowder

I have shot at least ten thousand of these winchester primers without one dud. I load one hundred a week for shooting skeet on the weekends. I usually buy by price and when these are the right price I have no problem purchasing them.

This is the best primer that I found for igniting Blackhorn 209 powder. Blackhorn 209 powder needs a powerful primer to ignite it and these work great. I use it in my CVA accura v2 inline.

I’m a dog trainer and I use the primers in a blank pistol and also in wingers. The primers are flared and don’t fit in my blank gun and most of my wingers

These are not only a very good shotshell primer, they are excellent in modern inline muzzleloaders. I have shot all the different powders for muzzleloader and these primers are most accurate than any other primer.

These are as good and as reliable as the higher priced primers. People make a fuss about two or three thousandths of an inch in diameter. I’ve found, from using thousands of these, that it just doesn’t matter.

I have used the Winchester 209 primer for over 500,000 target loads. As a competitive trap shooter, I have total trust that they will go bang. I have loaded all 3 cases with the same results.

I’ve been using this primer for the better part of forty years. Mostly in trap loads and some hunting loads. They have never let me down. I’ll continue to use them as long as I can get out and shoot trap and get some hunting in to.

These are great primers for the price. The only issue with my order was that the box of primers was not taped shut or packed properly by the Outdoorammory shipping department and they spilled out into the exterior shipping box. A couple were lost somewhere along the line…

These are the most versitle and consistent primers I’ve found. You can find workable loads using most powder, hull, and was combinations.

Winchester 209 are probably the most popular primers for shotgun reloading so I’m sure everyone knows how great of product they are, the thing I was impressed the shipping. I never ordered primers online because I thought the hazmat charge would be outrageous but I have to say it’s not bad and worth having them shipped to my house.

Winchester primers work well if you have a hull that has a oversize primer pocket. These primers are a little over size and work well. But remember to use data that calls for the winchester primer as they are a lot hotter than some of the American made primers.

My dad showed me how to reload when i was 7. I took over reloading for all our 12 Ga. and 20 Ga. Shells for trap and skeet. The one thing he taught me is you get what you pay for, and never buy cheap components. These have never let me down in the past 33 years I’ve used them for reloading, and i normally load between 3,000 and 5,000 rounds per year.
